Why Should I Shop In A Charity Shop?

“Charity shop”, “Op shop”, “Thrift store”… These terms may spark a sense of distaste and uncertainty in the minds of many people. They associate it with old, smelly, broken, trash etc., however this is certainly not always the case if you enter with an open mind and and a sense of creativity!

With each item of clothing you either purchase or donate, that is one less item of decent quality to fill up the already overflowing landfills.

You never know who might just fall in love with your old ripped jeans, once loved pair of shorts, curtains which no longer have a use…there are so many ways to turn old items into new fashion!

Take this outfit I wore today, for instance…shirt for £2, dungaree dress for £5, even a handbag for £6!

I love being able to find different and unique pieces, both simple or exciting which can be so versatile, and being able to create basically a whole outfit for less than £15! Whilst at the same time knowing that you are making footsteps in the right direction to helping the environment and taking part in ethical fashion.

Even if you don’t find anything of interest on one trip, it can be so much fun just exploring through these little stores pulling out whacky items and playing dress ups, honestly it really is an adventure going through charity stores, you never know what you will find on any given day!

Try planning a charity shopping day around your local area, or even another area which you think may prove interesting to search around based on what type of area it is. E.g., in London it might be Kensington/Chelsea for more upmarket or designer brands, or Shoreditch for vintage and alternative looks, be adventurous!
